Dan Riordan first met Elda Cullar one day when he was at the Geyser ranch
(near Cave Valley) rounding up horses. Elda was living with her mother and stepfather,
"Doc" Brunson, who were visiting at the Geyser ranch. The Brunson's lived in Corona,
California and when they returned to Corona with Elda, Dan longed to be with Elda.
So, it was not long before Dan left White River and moved to Corona where he married Elda at
the Southern Hotel on Christmas day 1907. They spent their wedding night at the
MISSION INN
in Riverside, CA. The next day they left by train for San Francisco, CA where they honeymooned.
They returned to live in Corona, CA. Dan found work in Corona and is remembered for one of his
jobs; driving the water wagon around the Corona "circle" (Grand Ave.) to wet down the dirt when the circle was used for auto
races (picture).

Dan and Elda started a family and named their first born after Dan. Little Danny tragically
contracted spinal meningitis and died in his mother's arms one month after his second birthday.
(See picture of little Danny with his Mother, Grandmother, and
Great-grandmother).
After little Danny died, Dan had an offer from his brother, Jim, to buy the Cave Valley ranch.
Dan thought it would be a good idea to move away from Corona as Elda was so sad after little
Danny's death. In addition, they were concerned that their other children might contract the same
sickness.
When Dan left Corona with his family, he took his horses, wagon, and other possessions with them
on the train. They got off the train in Caliente, Nevada, where Dan loaded up the wagon and
headed for Pioche which was the closest town between Caliente and Cave Valley.
Dan and his family lived in Pioche for about 15 months while he earned money by hauling freight
on his wagon between Caliente and Pioche. They finally moved by wagon to Cave Valley.
All of Elda's children were born at her mother's house in Corona. So when she became pregnant
with Dorothy, she took her other daughter, Grace, with her by train to Corona to be with her
mother until Dorothy was born on the 1st of October, 1922. The three of them left one month
later and took the train back to Caliente where Dan and Lawrance met them. They left immediately
in the wagon and arrived back at cave valley just ahead of a big snow storm.
