Date Chocolate Chip Cake


Ingredients

1 cup chopped dates
1 ½ cups boiling water
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup sugar
½ cup shortening
2 well beaten eggs
1 ½ cups flour
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon soda


Directions

Pour boiling water over dates and 1 teaspoon soda and let stand until cool.

Cream together the sugar, shortening and eggs and add to cooled date mixture.

Sift together the flour with the salt and ¾ teaspoon soda. Mix all together well, pour into large oblong pan which has been greased and floured.

Top with:

1 six-ounce package chocolate chips
½ cup sugar
½ cup nuts, chopped

Sprinkle chips, sugar and nuts on top of cake and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
