1 - 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. pork sausage (I use 1/2 chub Farmer John or Jimmy Dean)
1 medium onion, chopped (use electric chopper)
1/2 cup chopped green pepper (optional) (use electric chopper)
1/2 cup bread crumbs ( use electric chopper - one to two heels of old bread)
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 TBL. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. dried basil (rub between palms of hands)
2 - 3 bay leaves
6 strips of bacon
In large bowl, combine burger, sausage, bread crumbs, onions, bell pepper, salt, pepper, basil, and worchestershire sauce. Beat egg in separate bowl and add milk to egg. Pour over ingredients in large bowl. Using your hands, mix all together until thoroughly mixed. (If mixture seems to dry, add a little more milk).
Shape into a loaf and place into a greased (I use PAM) casserole dish. Place two to three bay leaves on top of loaf. Add strips of bacon to cover meat loaf. Bake at 375° for one hour.
