God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah,
GEN19: 1 - 28
1 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening; and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom.
When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and bowed himself with his face to the earth, 2
and said, "My lords, turn aside, I pray you, to your servant's house and spend the night, and wash
your feet; then you may rise up early and go on your way." They said, "No; we will spend the night
in the street." 3 But he urged them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his
house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. 4 But before
they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the
last man, surrounded the house; 5 and they called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to
you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them." 6 Lot went out of the door to
the men, shut the door after him, 7 and said, "I beg you, my brothers, do not act so
wickedly. 8 Behold, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me bring them out to
you, and do to them as you please; only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the
shelter of my roof." 9 But they said, "Stand back!" And they said, "This fellow came to
sojourn, and he would play the judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with them." Then they
pressed hard against the man Lot, and drew near to break the door. 10 But the men put forth
their hands and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. 11 And they struck
with blindness the men who were at the door of the house, both small and great, so that they
wearied themselves groping for the door. 12 Then the men said to Lot, "Have you any one
else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or any one you have in the city, bring them out of the
place; 13 for we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has
become great before the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it." 14 So Lot went out
and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, "Up, get out of this place; for the
LORD is about to destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting. 15
When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Arise, take your wife and your two daughters
who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city." 16 But he lingered; so
the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the LORD being merciful to him,
and they brought him forth and set him outside the city. 17 And when they had brought them
forth, they said, "Flee for your life; do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley; flee to
the hills, lest you be consumed." 18 And Lot said to them, "Oh, no, my lords; 19
behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving
my life; but I cannot flee to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me, and I die. 20
Behold, yonder city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there--is it
not a little one?--and my life will be saved!" 21 He said to him, "Behold, I grant you this
favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. 22 Make haste,
escape there; for I can do nothing till you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was
called Zoar. 23 The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. 24 Then the
LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 and he
overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew
on the ground. 26 But Lot's wife behind him looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD;
28 and he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and
beheld, and lo, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace.
The Assumption, PS45: 9, 13 - 15
9 ...daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor;
at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir.
13 ...The princess is decked in her chamber with gold-woven robes;
14 in many-colored robes she is led to the king,
with her virgin companions, her escort, in her train.
15 With joy and gladness they are led along
as they enter the palace of the king.
The Baptism of Jesus, MT3: 13 - 17
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
14 John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come
to me?" 15 But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it
is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness." Then he consented. 16 And when
Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened
and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; 17 and lo, a
voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
pleased."
The Lord's Prayer, MT6: 9 - 13
9 Pray then like this: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily
bread; 12 And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors; 13 And
lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.
The Transfiguration, MT17: 1 - 8
1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led
them up a high mountain apart. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone
like the sun, and his garments became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them
Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 And Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is well that we
are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for
Elijah." 5 He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice
from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him." 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, and
were filled with awe. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "
Rise, and have no fear." 8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one
but Jesus only.
The Scourging, MT27: 20 - 26
20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the people to ask for Barabbas and
destroy Jesus. 21 The governor again said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to
release for you?" And they said, "Barabbas." 22 Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do
with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said, "Let him be crucified." 23 And he said,
"Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Let him be crucified." 24
So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took
water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this righteous man's blood;
see to it yourselves." 25 And all the people answered, "His blood be on us and on our
children!" 26 Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him
to be crucified.
The Crowning with Thorns,
MT27: 27 - 31
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetorium, and they gathered
the whole battalion before him. 28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him,
29 and plaiting a crown of thorns they put it on his head, and put a reed in his right hand.
And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" 30 And they spat
upon him, and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked him,
they stripped him of the robe, and put his own clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.
The Crucifixion,
MT27: 33 - 56
33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull),
34 they offered him wine to drink, mingled with gall; but when he tasted it, he would not
drink it. 35 And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by
casting lots; 36 then they sat down and kept watch over him there. 37 And over his
head they put the charge against him, which read, "This is Jesus the King of the Jews." 38
Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. 39 And
those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, "You who would destroy
the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from
the cross." 41 So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,
42 "He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down
now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God; let God deliver him
now, if he desires him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" 44 And the robbers who were
crucified with him also reviled him in the same way. 45 Now from the sixth hour there
was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lama sabach-thani?" that
is, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" 47
And some of the bystanders hearing it said, "This man is calling Elijah." 48 And one of
them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to
him to drink. 49 But the others said, "Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save
him." 50 And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. 51
And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom; and the earth shook,
and the rocks were split; 52 the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who
had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they
went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 When the centurion and those who were with
him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe,
and said, "Truly this was the Son of God!" 55 There
were also many women there, looking on from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering
to him; 56 among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the
mother of the sons of Zebedee.
The Institution of the Eucharist,
MK14: 22 - 25
22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to
them, and said, "Take; this is my body." 23 And he took
a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he
said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for
many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of
the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
The Resurection, MK16: 1 - 8
1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and
Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first
day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 And they were saying to
one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" 4 And looking
up, they saw that the stone was rolled back; --it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb,
they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed.
6 And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of
Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him.
7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going
before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you." 8 And they went out
and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing
to any one, for they were afraid.
The Annunciation, LK1: 26 - 38
26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named
Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David;
and the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said,
"Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!" 29 But she was greatly troubled at
the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the
angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And
behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will
give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob
for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end." 34 And Mary said to the angel,
"How shall this be, since I have no husband?" 35 And
the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will
overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. 36
And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the
sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible."
38 And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it
be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.
The Visitation, LK1: 39 - 48
39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of
Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 And when
Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with
the Holy Spirit 42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are
you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why is this
granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the voice of
your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she
who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord." 46
And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, 47
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48
for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold,
henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
The Nativity, LK2: 6 - 16
6 And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. 7 And she gave
birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because
there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And in that region there were shepherds out
in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared
to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. 10
And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which
will come to all the people; 11 for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior,
who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in
swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!" 15 When the angels went away from
them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this
thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they went with haste,
and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
The Presentation, LK2: 22 - 38
22 And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they
brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of
the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") 24 and to
offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or
two young pigeons." 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this
man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon
him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death
before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And inspired by the Spirit he came into the temple;
and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, 29 "Lord, now lettest thou
thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; 30 for mine eyes have seen thy salvation
31 which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 a light for
revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to thy people Israel." 33 And his father and
his mother marveled at what was said about him; 34 and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary
his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign
that is spoken against 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that
thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed." 36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the
daughter of Phanu-el, of the tribe of Asher; she was of a great age, having lived with her husband
seven years from her virginity, 37 and as a widow till she was eighty-four. She did not
depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up
at that very hour she gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all who were looking for the
redemption of Jerusalem.
The Agony in the Garden,
LK22: 39 - 46
39 And he came out, and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives; and the
disciples followed him. 40 And when he came to the place he said to them,
"Pray that you may not enter into temptation." 41 And
he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42
"Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not
my will, but thine, be done." 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the
disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them,
"Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation."
The Crucifixion,
LK23: 33 - 49
33 And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him,
and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. 34 And Jesus said,
"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
And they cast lots to divide his garments. 35 And the people stood by, watching; but the
rulers scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God,
his Chosen One!" 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him vinegar,
37 and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!" 38 There was also
an inscription over him, "This is the King of the Jews." 39 One of the criminals who
were hanged railed at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!" 40 But
the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of
condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds;
but this man has done nothing wrong." 42 And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come
into your kingdom." 43 And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you,
today you will be with me in Paradise."
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the
ninth hour, 45 while the sun's light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
46 Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into thy
hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last. 47 Now
when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, and said, "Certainly this man was
innocent!" 48 And all the multitudes who assembled to see the sight, when they saw what had
taken place, returned home beating their breasts. 49 And all his acquaintances and the
women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance and saw these things.
The Carrying of the Cross,
LK23: 26 - 31
26 And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the
country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. 27 And there followed him a
great multitude of the people, and of women who bewailed and lamented him. 28 But Jesus
turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but
weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For
behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never
bore, and the breasts that never gave suck!' 30 Then
they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us'; and to the hills, 'Cover us.'
31 For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen
when it is dry?"
The Finding of Jesus in the Temple,
LK2: 41 - 52
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. 42
And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; 43 and when the feast
was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not
know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the company they went a day's journey, and they
sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; 45 and when they did not find him, they
returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple,
sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; 47 and all who
heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when they saw him they
were astonished; and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated
us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously." 49 And he said
to them, "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be
in my Father's house?" 50 And they did not understand the saying which he spoke
to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and
his mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in
stature, and in favor with God and man.
The Proclaimation of the Kingdom of God
, LK4: 14 - 21
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and a report concerning
him went out through all the surrounding country. 15 And he taught in their synagogues,
being glorified by all. 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he
went to the synagogue, as his custom was, on the sabbath day. And he stood up to read; 17
and there was given to him the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened the book and found the place
where it was written, 18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to
the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
20 And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down;
and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 And he began to say to them,
"Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
The Miracle at Cana, JN2: 1 - 11
1 On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was
there; 2 Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples. 3 When the wine
failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."
4 And Jesus said to her, "O woman, what have you to do with me? My
hour has not yet come." 5 His mother said to the servants,
"Do whatever he tells you." 6 Now six stone jars were
standing there, for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.
7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And
they filled them up to the brim. 8 He said to them, "Now draw some
out, and take it to the steward of the feast." So they took it. 9 When the
steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though
the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward of the feast called the bridegroom
10 and said to him, "Every man serves the good wine first; and when men have drunk freely,
then the poor wine; but you have kept the good wine until now." 11 This, the first of his
signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
The Carrying of the Cross,
JN19: 16 - 17
16 Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. 17 So they took Jesus, and
he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called the place of a skull, which is called in
Hebrew Golgotha.
The Resurrection, JN20: 1 - 10
1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was
still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran, and
went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have
taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." 3 Peter then
came out with the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb. 4 They both ran, but the
other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first; 5 and stooping to look in, he saw
the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him,
and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths lying, 7 and the napkin, which had been on
his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the
other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as
yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples
went back to their homes.
The Ascension, ACTS 1: 6 - 11
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore
the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to
know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and
you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth."
9 And when he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud
took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold,
two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, "Men of
Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven,
will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."
The Descent of the Holy Spirit,
ACTS 1: 6 - 11
1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And
suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house
where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and
resting on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Homosexuality,
ROM 1: 24 - 27
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring
of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and
worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen. 26
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for
unnatural, 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with
passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the
due penalty for their error.
Homosexuality,
I COR 6: 9 - 10
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived;
neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, 10 nor thieves, nor the
greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Homosexuality,
I TIM 1:10
.... 10 immoral persons, sodomites, kidnapers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to
sound doctrine,.....
The Coronation,
REV 11: 19 - 12:1
19 Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his
temple; and there were flashes of lightning, voices, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy
hail.
1 And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the
moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars;
