Repetitious Prayer

Why do Catholics use "vain repetitious" prayers such as the Rosary?


Yes, the Rosary is a repetitious prayer. But how can it be vain? It contains the "Our Father" (MT 6:9-13) which Jesus Himself taught us. The Apostle's creed (CCC 184-185) which is a summary of Christian beliefs and is central to any Christian prayer. The Ave Maria (Hail Mary) is contained in scripture (LK 1:28, 42-43). The Rosary is divided into Four meditations on the mysteries of Christ's life. Each meditation consists of five mysteries. Each mystery begins with the "Our Father" followed by 10 "Hail Marys" and ends with "Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit...." Each mystery is listed below with corresponding scripture meditions and Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) meditions:
